FAQ
1. What time do I need to report at the waiting room for my category?
Contestants are to be present at the waiting room at Bechstein Music World at the timing stated above for each category.
2. What do I do after I have reported at the waiting room?
Contestants will be seated in order of performance sequence, and wait to be ushered to warm up room to warm up and practice. Contestants age 12 years old and below may have an adult accompanying him/her at the waiting room, warm up room, and to the main hall until the performance is over.
3. Can I watch the other contestants of my category perform BEFORE I perform?
No. Contestants who have not performed for their category, will be at the waiting room or warm up room. After your own performance, you will be seated in the main hall, and you can watch performances of contestants after you.
4. What happens after I have performed for my category?
You will be seated in the main hall together with the audience (or your parents). Or you can leave the hall and come back for the results at the end of the session.
5. When will results be announced?
Each category results will be announced at the end of each session. E.g. Piano Session 2 has Piano Classical Junior A, followed by Junior B, then Junior C. The results and prize presentation of the 3 categories will be announced after Junior C performances has ended.
6. What do finalists and winners get?
All finalists will received a Finalist Certificate. Finalist will also receive a Medal or Trophy with Cash Prizes depending on their final standing. Exact award for top 3 standing can be found on the main festival page.
7. Do I need to do any self introduction before I start playing?
Nope. You do not have to do any self-introduction. You just need to walk up the stage, prepare yourself to perform, and start.
8. Can I take photos or video of performance?
Yes. Audience members can take photos or videos of the performance, provided they do not interfere with the running and performance of the contestants. There will be official video recording of every performance.
9. What do I need to bring to register at the counter on final day?
You can register at the counter by showing the contestant’s student ID.
10. Is there a pedal extender at the venue?
Yes. A pedal extender is available if needed.
11. Is there a music stand?
Yes.
12. What is the dress code?
No official dress code. You’re encouraged to dress well for your performance. You’re also encouraged to dress according to the piece you’re performing. Bonus marks may be awarded based on dress code and creativity.
13. Can I perform with music score or do I have to play from memory?
You can perform with the music score and will not be penalised. The judging will be based on performance, not memory. You can also choose to play from memory if that helps you perform better.
14. I will perform with score. Can I bring my exam score book, or a folder with printed music sheets?
Yes, you can bring the exam book, song book, folder with music sheets, or any music scores in physical or digital format to perform during the finals.
15. What happens if my performance during the finals exceed time limit?
The time will start once the first note is played, and end once the last note stops. The duration of every performance is recorded and submitted to the judges. If your performance exceeds the duration, you will be disqualified.
16. What happens if I didn’t turn up for the grand finals?
If you didn’t turn up for the grand finals, it means you’ve withdrawn yourself from the competition.
